Santa Marta - The market and the (not so much) Caribbean sea

Reaching Santa Marta from Villa de Leyva was not the easiest and relaxing experience one can have. We changed 3 buses, 2 during the day and one overnight with a total travel time of nearly 24hours. The route goes through mountains with pretty high peaks and gorgeous valleys crossed by rivers. The scenery is amazing...if you survive to the bus drivers’ extravaganzas!

Bogotà - Our first almuerzo casero

02 – 04 September 2019

The arrival in Bogota makes our real journey to start! and we can feel it already at the airport where nobody cares about what we bring, alarms ringing or anti-drug dogs barking.
The 2 days in Bogota are mainly a stop to put together our backpacks in travelling mode, manage the jet lag and prepare our next stops. But we also take the time to visit La Candelaria, the old part of the city.

Villa de Leyva - Colonial Colombia

04 - 05 September 2019

Today we move from the big, smoky, bustling city of Bogotà to the little, cute, colonial town of Villa de Leyva. It’s only 4 hours away but this is the first bus of this journey, so quite special. We feel amazed and puzzled to find again similarities between South America and South East Asia. We know exactly what is going to happen, from the stops to let people jump in (literally jumping) to the shouts of the driver assistant every time we approach a bus station.

Take off - Saludos amigos!!

Another departure. A sadder one this time. After spending 1 months side by side with our parents, for the wedding preparation, the separation is even harder than usual. But the excitement is not less than that! We can’t wait to live all the experiences that South America will bring us. We are a bit worried about criminality and thefts, but we hope that all the measures we put in place will be enough to prevent our passports to be stolen: the only scenario that would force us to go back home.
