Quito - An important celebration

23 - 25 September 2019

The capital city of Ecuador has been described to us as unsafe, dangerous, but at the same time one of the best colonial city in South America. Well, for us it hasn’t been neither of these things.
Of course, we took extreme care during daytime, but especially after dark, but we haven’t felt unsafe at all. On the other hand we didn’t fall in love with its well preserved city centre. It’s nice, but that’s it.
We arrived in Quito on an early afternoon, after a bus journey from Otavalo and the even longer (on scale) journey from the bus terminal to La Mariscal suburb.

Salento - Happy birthday Erika!

16 - 17 September 2019

Salento is what we expected from Villa de Leyva: a tiny village with colourful buildings, handicraft and textile shops everywhere and old men with typical hats hanging out on the main square. We loved it at first sight, especially because this lovely place will be our “home” for Erika’s birthday. We cannot ask for more...but there is something more: the Cocora Valley, which is one of the best spots we have seen in Colombia, after Tayrona.

Cartagena - The injury does not stop us!

09 - 13 September 2019

Our relationship with this town didn’t start off with the right foot. Erika twisted her ankle running to catch the bus that was heading off after a quick stop. Moments of concern followed the accident. How serious was the injury? hard to tell. Little by little with the strength of our bond we managed to improve our mood.

Otavalo - Traditional clothes and dances

20 - 23 September 2019

Colombia was great, really. It was the first country in our trip to South America, and somehow was our teacher for the culture, food, people of this amazing continent. But we felt something was missing. We weren’t amazed by this country, nothing left us speechless, we weren’t as excited as we used to be in Asia. We started to wonder if we couldn’t be impressed anymore by a different culture, because we had already experienced the most different ones. But then we arrived in Otavalo, Ecuador, and all these thoughts were instantly wiped out.

Medellin - The past and the present

14 - 15 September 2019

Medellin in the early 90’ was one of the most dangerous cities in the world. And you can still tell today. Not because it is particularly unsafe or because we felt threatened in any way, but because of the wounds that terrible period left in Colombians hearts.

Parque Tayrona - Finally Caribbean!

07 - 08 September 2019

Hiking boots, backpacks full of food and water, a swim suit and changes for the night...ready for Tayrona National Park!
It is the main attraction of the area (together with Ciudad Perdida) and there is a good reason for that. After few minutes inside the park we are already in love. A jungle forest and stunning beaches with clear water. The weather is humid and very hot but we don’t give up, what we see is so amazing that the heat is just a secondary feeling.
