Parque Tayrona - Finally Caribbean!

07 - 08 September 2019

Hiking boots, backpacks full of food and water, a swim suit and changes for the night...ready for Tayrona National Park!
It is the main attraction of the area (together with Ciudad Perdida) and there is a good reason for that. After few minutes inside the park we are already in love. A jungle forest and stunning beaches with clear water. The weather is humid and very hot but we don’t give up, what we see is so amazing that the heat is just a secondary feeling.

After a couple of hours we reach the campsite where we will spend the night. We chose the less crowded one which is not in front of the beach, but inside the jungle. Tonight we will sleep in hammocks, let’s see how it goes!
We have a quick lunch at the campsite and then we are ready to continue the walk. We don’t know where to stop but when we bump into one of the beach we have no doubt we would spend the afternoon there. It’s not one of the famous, it’s smaller but way less popular. The water is crystal clear and the only thing we can think of is remove our clothes and jump into the water. So damn good! It’s just perfect: clean, warm but refreshing, without dangerous inhabitants like sharks and thankfully for Erika not many fishes around.

We relax here for a few hours, but before heading back we want to check out the next beach La Piscina which seems more famous. Well, honestly not worth it!
Back at the campsite it’s time for a cold shower and a delicious dinner: Chinese noodle soup, the one bought dry at the supermarket that needs to be cooked for a few minutes in boiling water. The rest of the campers are having dinner at the restaurant, but we need to feel special all the time, and moreover independent.

The second day we head to the most famous beach of the park: Capo de san Juan. The heat and humidity are making the journey difficult, but the final destination is stunning. There is a good reason why this is the most famous and tourist spot, it’s really special. The water is pristine and once you go in you don’t want to get out! We enjoy the beach for the entire morning going in and out water all the time. What is interesting though is the proximity of a basin where there might be some crocs...why is nobody worried? A policeman passing by told a family near us that a crocodile went out the basin to the beach only last week...what???
With sadness we start to go back around lunch time, we pass by our campsite, have a quick lunch and get ready for the hike back.
Definitely a spot in the world worth a visit and maybe a bit longer stay!
